Presbyopia / Cataract

Correct presbyopia and cataracts simultaneously

What Are Cataracts and Presbyopia?

Cataract

CataractA cataract is a condition in which the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, causing blurred vision. Proteins in the originally transparent lens undergo degenerative changes, preventing light from passing through normally and leading to decreased vision.

Cataracts primarily develop due to aging, typically beginning to progress from around age 50 and becoming more prevalent in the 60-70 age range. UV exposure, diabetes, trauma, and steroid medications can also be contributing factors. Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed ophthalmic procedure worldwide.

Presbyopia

PresbyopiaPresbyopia is the age-related loss of the eye's ability to focus on near objects, caused by decreased elasticity of the natural lens. It typically begins in the early-to-mid 40s and gradually worsens over time.

Close-up text becomes difficult to read, books and phones need to be held farther away, and dim lighting makes tasks especially challenging. Presbyopia is not a disease but a natural part of aging, and it can be corrected through premium cataract surgery.

Do You ExperienceThese Symptoms?

Blurred Vision

Vision appears hazy or foggy overall. Even with glasses, clear vision is difficult to achieve.

Increased Glare

Bright lights and headlights cause increased glare and halos. Night driving becomes difficult.

Color Changes

Colors appear faded or yellowish, and distinguishing between colors becomes harder. Bright colors look dull.

Presbyopia Symptoms

Near text becomes difficult to read, and you find yourself holding books or your phone farther away. Reading glasses become necessary.

Double Vision

Objects may appear doubled or overlapping when viewed with one eye.

Temporary Near Vision Improvement

In early cataracts, the lens thickens temporarily improving near vision without reading glasses, a phenomenon known as 'second sight.'

Self-AssessmentChecklist

If you identify with 3 or more of the following items, we recommend scheduling a comprehensive eye examination.

This checklist is for reference only. An accurate diagnosis requires examination by a board-certified ophthalmologist.

When toConsider Surgery

Daily activities (reading, watching TV, driving) are affected by declining vision
Glasses or contact lenses can no longer adequately correct your vision
Glare and halos are severe enough to impair nighttime driving
Cataracts may lead to complications such as glaucoma or iritis
You wish to correct both presbyopia and cataracts to live free of reading glasses

TreatmentOptions

Observation & Monitoring

For early-stage cataracts with minimal impact on daily life, regular check-ups monitor disease progression.

Suitable for: Early-stage cataracts with minor vision impact

Medication

Eye drops may slow cataract progression, but they cannot restore clarity to a lens that has already become cloudy.

Suitable for: Early to moderate stage, pre-surgical management

Standard Cataract Surgery

Removes the cloudy lens and implants a monofocal intraocular lens. May be covered by national health insurance.

Suitable for: Moderate to advanced cataracts

Premium Cataract Surgery

Implants a multifocal or extended depth-of-focus intraocular lens to correct distance, intermediate, and near vision simultaneously. Also addresses presbyopia.

Suitable for: Those who wish to correct both cataracts and presbyopia

Early Detection of Cataracts and Presbyopia Is Important

Regular eye examinations are recommended for those over 40. Our specialist team provides accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans.
